Unable to retrieve health data - vCenter 4

I see a similar issue here: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/237464?tstart=0 but it is different for me. In vSphere Client, I see an alert under the vCenter Service Status for vCenter Management webservices that says "Unable to retrieve health data from https://server.domain:8443/vws/Query/Health"

When I try to go to the same URL, I get an error

HTTP Status 401 - Not authorized to access this service.

-

type Status report

message Not authorized to access this service.

description This request requires HTTP authentication (Not authorized to access this service.).

-

Apache Tomcat/6.0.14

I also noticed that tomcat6 on the vCenter server is using 1.3 GB of RAM, but apparently that is normal for this version. I cannot see the hardware status for any of my hosts with an error of "

<div class="gwt-Label">Hardware monitoring service on this host is not responding

or not available</div>

Additional details: Malformed URI

|

This is even after I installed the HP CIM on each host.

Ideas? Suggestions?

Also, if I go to https://server.domain:8443 I see the Apache Tomcat homepage saying that it is installed successfully and if I go to https://server I get the vSphere homepage.

Turns out that Apache doesn't like _ in the hostname as it does not

conform to the standard, although Microsoft allows domain names to have

it in there, and VMWare itself does not matter.

Changing the hostname of my vCenter server to not use the FQDN and

adding each Host with the IP only instead of DNS name resolved the

issue.
