Hello all,
Just a little advise please
I need to upgrade a clients VC instance in order for them to support Server 2012
They currently run 4.1 on a 2003 R2 64bit VM
Rather than go through the hassle of upgrading to 5.0 and then to 5.1 I think it makes sense to install a fresh VC instance (they only have two hosts)
Are there any caveats for doing this? I propose installing 5.1 onto 2008 R2 VM
Thanks
Simon
If you have Just two hosts, Then it would be a better Idea to do a fresh install of the VC , should work good.
Make a new VM and install database on it. Import the backup of the Database you had taken and then on the VCenter machine, start the installation.
and you have to create a new ODBC connection before you start the installation
5.1 does work good on 2008 R2.
Thanks,
Avinash
Hi Avinash,
Isn't that an upgrade rather than a fresh install? You are taking the existing DB used by 4.1 and restoring on to 5.1 DB
Is there any need to upgrade to 5.0 DB before moving it?
Thanks for your help
Simon
I was stating install of the VC with an Existing DB well you could consider that as an upgrade the only difference would be the ODBC DSN , the new one has to be 64 bit where as the previous would have been 32 bit.
Thanks,
Avinash
Thanks Avinash,
I've decided on installing a new VC and then moving the two ESX hosts into it and upgrading them
Thanks for your thoughts
Simon
