VC Server for vSphere

Can I have two VC servers... one for ESX 3.5 and 3.02, and one for vSphere hosts? How the licensing will work? Any thoughts. thanks.

Hi,

You can have how many ever vCenters you want Smiley Wink . But in your case you dont need to have more than 1 vCenter.

In case you are planning to manage ESX 3.0.2, 3.5 and 4.0 hosts using the same you will have to provide the license server information for 3.x hosts and serial number for the 4.0 hosts.

Hope its clear Smiley Happy

You can have two VCs for 3 and 4 environment. My counterpart in EMEA is doing this right now so they can disconnect ESX from VC2.5 and add it to vCenter.

However, you don' t need to do that i. In vCenter, there is no more license servers, so you need to add the vSphere license key. But vCenter is able to see both license server from VC2.5 and vCenter's license file. So you will be able to see all the license from VC2.5 and vCenter
