Just install MsSQL as per normal on how you would install it normally. Incase you need a tutorial it is here http://www.sqlserverclub.com/essentialguides/how-to-install-sql-server-2008-step-by-step-guide.aspx
Once that is done, you can refer to to the best practices from VMware. http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=102210...
iDLE-jAM | VCP 2, VCP 3 & VCP 4

Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 databases are planned to be supported from the next release of vSphere, vSphere 4.1 Update 1. The release of this update is planned for the second quarter of this year.

Looking to deploy SQL 2008 R2 in Vsphere 4.1 as well.
How would ensure High Availability to protect aganist VM failure (blue screen, hung OS, bad drivers, etc)?
Hi,
Well you can always use VM monitoring witch is a checkbox in VM Settings. And if you got a good SQL backup solution that will save you in case of a disaster.. It's not the end of the world if you loose your vCenter Server for a while.
Use full VM Backup if you really want to ensure fast recovery time.

Micke
