vSphere Host Update Utility fails - Log files

My Host Update Utility always fails installing any update on my ESXi. It tells me as reason, that I should have a look at the logfiles. But where are the logfiles? Are there logfiles from the vSphere Host Update Utility or are the logfiles from the ESXi meant? Where is their location?

I am using Windows 7.

Ps.: I don't know if I put this into the correct topic. If not, please move it and delete this sentence.

At which step do you get the error message? (see http://blog.vmpros.nl/2010/07/14/vmware-patching-your-esxi-host-without-vcenter)

On the "patch" step, after I clicked the "Install" button.

After some research, I noticed that there is a 4.1 version on the web. So I decided to upgrade to this one. This upgrade can only be done using "esxupdate" from command line, so I did this. This worked successfully. After this action, Host Update Utility is no longer in use. See http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=102214... . I think 4.1 fixes all the patches from 4.0 Update 1 and 2? Do you know how I can install patches now (after Host Update Utility is no longer supported)?

The supported methods for updating ESXi are either VMware Update Manager (only if you are using vCenter Server) or the vihostupdate utility.
