PCNS on vma 5

I'm working on setting up PCNS 3 on our ESXi 5 servers. Our servers are in a vmware cluster and I have 1 vma (for 2 ESXi servers) (should I have one vma instance on each host?). Anyhow, how do I confiugre PCNS? Should I set up "Shut Down System" under "UPS: On Battery" in "Configure Events"? Do I need to configure anything else in "Configure Events"?

Do I need to configure anything in "Configure Shutdown"? I'm specifically wondering about "Run this command files (full name)".

"The command file needs this much time to complete (seconds)" is for how long it takes for all the VM's and ESXi hosts to shut down, correct?

Have you looked at the APC webpage about this?

I have check the APC site but that document doesn't specify how to tell it to shut down the servers in the event of a power outage. (At least, I didn't see it anywhere)

Are you sure?

In the pdf after the setup there are two sections, about how to configure shutdown behaviour (via web interface) and how to add ESXi hosts to VMA to send them the shutdown commands (via VMA command line).

Do you know what page? I see page 49 tells you what page it uses but not what you need to put in there or how to configure it.

53 and on? All I get from reading that is how to add the servers in VMA and then how to install the software from CD. I must be blind because I don't see anywhere where it shows how to actually configure the shutdown option in PCNS...

You add the servers to VMA, and then you configure the powerchute for the desired shutwodn behaviour. Once it's triggered, it send to all the registered ESXi server the shutdown command, and first they will poweroff the VMs they are running...

Right, what shutdown behavior do I configure? Do I "Configure Events" as well as "Configure Shutdown"? What do I put in for "Run this command file (full name)"? Do I configure "Run Command File" or "Shut Down System" in Configure Events?

That is where I'm having issues.

Need to refresh my mind, it's been quite a bit since the last configuration I did.

If I'm not wrong, first you choose for which events you want the system to shutdown (shut down systems), then you configure "How" it should shutdown like delay and others.

Maybe in the future I will have other requests and will make an how-to guide.
