vmDirectPath IO with PCI external SATA?

Just wondering if anyone is successfully using vmDirectPath IO with a PCI external SATA card ... is this sort of card (being a storage device) supported ... and can anyone make any suggestions as to what brand(s) of card to consider?

I want to use this feature to connect a pair of external SATA drives to a VM for copying off backup files to an offsite location.

Hi,

That's an interesting use case.

Have a look here, it might help: http://vm-help.com/esx40i/esx40_vmdirectpath_whitebox_HCL.php#Devices

It seems that the LSI cards on there might work for you (haven't checked the details to be honest)
