CPU compatibility for a vsphere setup

Hi,

I wanted to setup a vsphere environment as part of a project. I ve very recently moved into the virtualization domain and as a starting point need to setup a vsphere environment. Previously I thought of establishing the setup on a workstation but most of the guides are for establishing the setup on bare metal. So got approved to buy a new machine for that. Unfortunately the only available CPU I can have is intel core-i5-2400. http://ark.intel.com/products/52207 Although it does support intel- VT-x but I couldnt find it in the compaitiblity guide http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

Can anyone please guide me in this whether I can establish the setup on that CPU ? All help much appreciated.

Hello,

Looks like the only thing I could find with support on this processor was to run workstation or VMware server.  You can try to install ESXi on and it may work but VMware support will be best effort if you ever need to call in.

Thanks Jeff. The compatibility checker you mentioned approves it. Gonna try it hopefully it will work.
