ESX 4 crashed and failed to reinstall

Hi there,

I have a ESX 4 Server crashed during a power outage. It cannot boot up, it seems the local vmfs volume is intact. I tried re-installing it with an attempt to preserve the vmfs partition. However, I got an error "The size of the select disk is not enough to fit the Console Virtual Disk Image. Select another disk." The reason is that my vmfs partition only has about 6 GB left. Does anyone have ideas how to get around with that? Is there any tool that I can access the VMFS volume without the ESX O/S to clean up part of the volume?

Thanks in advance.

If your server is able to boot from USB, you could install ESXi 4 on a USB Stick.

Hi Andre,

I am sorry for not responding to this thread sue to extremely busy at the time of the issue.  I then forgot this afterwards until I got a reminder e-mail. Your suggestion did resolve my issue.
