ESXi on HP 8790W EliteBook

This is my very first experience of VMware. I want to use an Elitebook 8790w as a platform to run several servers in order to demonstrate various applications.

I have tried V4.x and V5.x but hit the same problem each time in as much as it fails to detect the presence of an available network adapter.

Is there anything that can be done in order to pre-configure the boot CD so that it can find a suitable adapter or is this a non starter?

Is it a viable alternative to boot the workstation with an OS such as Windows 7 and then run the VMware player in order to run all virtual servers or is this going to be significantly limited in terms of resources and performance?

Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions.

Kind regards

Richard Scales

So, install VMware Workstation on Laptop - this is then (I assume) what the laptop boots into.

If that is the case, why then would I need to install ESXi, can I not simply run VM's under the workstation product?

Did I read that right?
