Hi All,
Can any body tell me the difference between the ESX licensing and VCenter licencing.
I have got 6 ESX hosts with Enterprise plus license and a VC host with standard license. With this scenario will I get all the features for Enterprise Plus ?
Or do I have to buy a VC enterprise plus license.
If I have a VC standard license how many hosts can I manage?
Please provide me with some documentation on licensing.
Thanks
vCenter is a management server for vSphere and it is licensed independently. There 2 editions of vCenter - Foundation and Standard. Foundation can manage 3 dual-socket hosts, Standard has no limitations at all (except technological maximums).
So yes, you will have all Enterprise Plus features with vCenter Standard.
vCenter Standard 4.0 can manage up to 200/300 hosts (depending on OS version where vCenter is installed - 32/64bit).
vCenter Standard 4.1 can manage up to 1000 hosts.

vCenter standard licencing is able to manage enterprise plus hosts
In vCenter 4.1 the maximum number of hosts you can manage is 1000 per vCenter it was less in version 4.0
