Upgraded to vCenter 4.1 - Update Manager no longer working

I got it to the point where it says as an available plugin and able to be installed. I click install, it installs and runs without an error, however the install of vCenter never recognizes it, the tab not showing up and it doesn't move into installed programs.

Any ideas?

Sometimes older versions prevent the newer versions from installing correctly.

Try uninstalling Update Manager from "Add/Remove Software" and then install the plugin again.

Tried that already.

No dice.

Did you check for entries in the log files, yet?

There is no log file on the PC where I'm trying to install it.

You need to upgrade your Update Manager to 4.1 too. Then you need to upgrade/reinstall your vsphere client plugin. I had a problem with the upgrade of Update Manager 4.1 registering to vCenter but that is resolved with Vmware support's help by editing a registry value.

I ended up having to do the following process:

1) Uninstall the plugin from my PC

2) Uninstall Update Manager on the server

3) Re-create the 32-bit DSN

4) Reinstall Update Manager and point to the DSN

5) Reinstall plugin.

Worked fine afterwards.
