Vcenter Backward Compatible ?

Hi,

Looking to upgrade from ESX 3.5 Update to vSphere4.

Is it possible to update the Management Server i.e Virtual Centre to vSphere 4, and still run ESX 3.5.

Therefore, running both ESX 3.5 and Vsphere 4 under a Vsphere4 Virtual centre.

Many thanks

Hello.

Yes, this is possible. It can be verified as supported in the vSphere Compatibility Matrix.

Good Luck!

Hi,

You can manage lower version ESX hosts using a later version of vCenter Server. e.g. Using vCenter Server 4.0, ESX 3.5x hosts can be managed.

But, the opposite doesn't hold good. e.g. ESX 4.0 hosts can't be managed using using VC 2.5x.

Thanks.
