vSphere Licensing Model

Hi,

Can someone please help me with the vSphere Licensing model. For instanace if I purchase 1 vSphere Enterprise Plus License then how many ESX servers can fit into that License. And let's say I have 4 ESX Servers with 2 CPU's (6 cores) each then how many vSphere Enterprise Plus License do I need to purchase?

Also, does the vSphere Enterprise Plus License contain the vCenter License as well?

Any link, document regarding licensing will be really helpful

Thanks,

Mohammed

1 ESX with 1 CPU (multicore).

4 ESX * 2 CPUs = 8 licenses.

No, vCenter should be bought separately, but one vCenter is enough. You don't have to buy another vCenter if you want to buy some new ESX licenses.

Hi Mohammed

vSphere licensing is done on a per processor basis therefore in your description of 4 ESX Servers with 2 CPU's (6 cores) you would require 8 licence's

There are some differences between the versions an how many cores per processor are allowed

Please see the following for more info

The acceleration bundles include vCenter otherwise you will need to licence it separately

Scott
