Can I move a Distributed Switch from a Datacenter to the top level in order to use it in a new DC ?

Hello,

My Distributed Switch has been created within my first Datacenter and is used by various clusters of ESXi 6.5 or 7u3.

Now, I’m building a new cluster in a new Datacenter. In this new DC, I do not see my Distributed Switch.

I’m wondering if I can safely move (right click and move) the Distributed Switch from my 1st DC to the top level (vCenter level) in order to be able to use it in my 2nd DC.

And if I need to do something with my Distributed Port Groups ?

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Franck

This confirms that a vDS is associated with a Datacenter object: https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/7.0/com.vmware.vsphere.networking.doc/GUID-D21B3241-0AC9-4...

So you might need to do something like this, assuming the import can be to a different Datacenter: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2034602

Hello Scott,

I exported the DS but cannot import it on my new Datacenter with the following error:

Operation failed!

The operation is not supported on the object.
