Is there a CLI interface to the VDR appliance...on the Appliance? We would like to be able to script the backup jobs to run on our crazy schedule. Unfortunately disk is tight but we would like to use the VDR in our recovery scheme.

I think that is not possible (or is not documented).
Only the FLR utility has a (documented) CLI:
