I'm posting this question here in the event that someone else runs into this. Additionally, I have an internal case open for this, so I will make sure to update this thread with the outcome.
I'm a VMware employee and as such many of the prerequisite courses are available for free on our internal training platform called Hive.
I passed exam 5V0-23.20 / VMware Certified Specialist - vSphere with Tanzu 2023 a few days ago on Saturday morning, but was never issued the certificate. I'm guessing that it might just take some time to process things, however I did notice that under myLearn that the prerequisite course I took and passed last year, "VMware vSphere with Tanzu: Deploy and Manage [V7] – On Demand", is not showing under Certification Manager / Training, but is showing under VMware Customer Connect Learning transcripts.
One theory I have is that the mechanism that issues the certificates is unable to look at VMware Customer Connect Learning to see that I took and passed the prerequisite course "VMware vSphere with Tanzu: Deploy and Manage [V7] – On Demand". Otherwise perhaps it just takes time to issue the 5V0-23.20 certificate. However, my VCP NV, DCV and AM all were issued within 24 hours, which has my thinking something has gone wrong.
Thoughts? Insight?
I've only ever taken training from the Learning team through the public-facing portals, rather than via Hive. Such as: https://mylearn.vmware.com/gw/mylearn/course/course-details/95134
I don't know if they have the ability to "push" completion from HIVE through to the system used for certifications, although we have had a lot of employees taking the new VCP for VMware Cloud and I think they might have used HIVE for the associated training modules.
Thanks. Hopefully something can be done, assuming the course being in Hive is an issue at all. Taking the course over again probably wouldn't be much of a benefit to me and would mostly be a waste of my time as I work with the product everyday.
The HIVE courses for employees do count towards the prerequisite training. The back-end should be communicating to each other, recognizing that completion. If you haven't already, send an email to certification@vmware.com with your specific case so we can take a look. Maybe we'll discover a gap in the data communications.
Thanks,
Karl
Thanks. I had opened a case for this before posting here by e-mailing certification@vmware.com. This caused a case to be opened and the support person i spoke to said that I had two options:
I got manager approval to waive the course but still have not received the certification. I'm guessing they've not re-assigned my case or something. Although this is inaccurate to the facts, because I have taken the course.
When I look further at the course "VMware vSphere with Tanzu: Deploy and Manage [V7] - On Demand", I see that there are four modules.
All of which I completed in Hive.
I did mention to my manager that we need to fix this disconnect between Hive and certification because this is very discouraging after all of the time and effort I put into this. It makes me feel guilty for achieving the certification that I worked so hard for.
It would be great if someone would look into the following:
When the cert team contacts me about the unissued cert, I will point them to this thread. Maybe this will prevent me having to reinvent the wheel.
Thanks for your response!
Thanks. Definitely point back to this, as the manager waiver (as an employee) and the passed exam should award the certification.
