P2V with no ESX host ?

Hi all

I need to P2V 15 servers for at test environment off site. We have no ESX hosts on location. The 15 servers are in production and cannot be shut down.

Normally I would just use vCenter to import the servers, but since I have no host to import it to this is not possible.

I was thinking about using VMware workstation to import them, but is VMware Workstation 7 and ESX 4 the same format/version ?

Is there any other options ?

Hi Peter,

Welcome to the forum.

Workstation 7 and ESX 4 use the same VM hardware version ( kb ). So you should be able to copy your servers this way.

By the way, you don't really care. You virtualize your physical server on a storage you can carry. Then use Converter a second time to import the VM to your ESX.
