We are running several hosts with ESXI 4.0. In the past we were using Vsphere Server client to copy data (vmdk files) from one datastore to other on a different host. We are facing some issues with the GUI interface. We have tried using SCP but that takes extensively long to copy files bewten two hosts datastores. Is there any other way to copy files from one host datastore to another host datastore without the GUI using SSH and CLI or maybe command like “vmkfstools”. Please note we like to transfer files between the ESXI 4.0 hosts datastores not the VM’s. Any tips would benice
If you're familiar with how vmkfstools works on the classic ESX Service Console, you can use that to copy VMDK(s), so long as the source ESXi host with the files can see both target and destination datastores. If these are totally separate, then you won't be able to transfer them between hosts. You can also take a look at using Veeam's FastSCP, it's designed to copy off VMDK(s) where as standard SCP (winSCP) is NOT.
