Dear all,
I would like to find out which is the best possible way to migrate ESX 3.0 to ESXI 5.0.
It will be migrated to the 2 new Hosts connect to SAN.
Existing ESX 3.0 is using local drive with 4-5 vms in it.
Any advise is really appreciated.
Hi Seanbb

AFAIK there is no direct upgrade from ESX 3.0, I would sugges to go for a fresh build of ESXi 5.0 / 5.1
First check if the hardware is compatibale with vSphere 5.0 or 5.1 enviroment, check VMware HCL for this
Hiya,
Thanks. I would like to find out How to move the existing vms to the fresh build in esxi 5.0

Sean
You can use VMware converter to migrate the VM's to the new ESXi host or if you are using a Shared Storage you could assign those LUN to the new ESXi host, browse the datastore and add it to the inventory
Hi
I would - as allready suggested - use VMware Converter. But I have actually just made this stunt in an old installation with Veeam Fastback and Replication free edition. Shut down the VM's and you can copy the libraries from local storage to shared storage with up to 50 MB/s (Depending on your network ykwim)

Can both of them be used in offline mode?
Hi
VMware converter on an virtual server runs online.
Veeam Fastbackup and replication using SCP copying is offline.
