ESXI Datastore partitioning error

Screenshot 2023-11-30 134746.png

After configuring a RAID 1 configuration on a HPE server, I have gone to ESXi and attempted to create a datastore with the configured disks, when trying to make the datastore there's an error saying that: the datastore cannot be created because of an error when partitioning the disk. If you know what the issue is please let me know. I think it maybe because of the RAID 1 configuration but I am not entirely sure how to resolve that.

Can you post a screenshot of the error or the exact message? Also, are you using the vSphere Client or the ESXi Host client?

Sounds like a possible driver error for the raid controller. Are you using a hardware raid controller, if so are the drivers supported on this version of ESXi and are you using the HP image for your ESXi installation?

What may be worth a try, is to right click the new RAID1 disk, and run "Clear partition table".

HP supplies their own custom ESXi images for their servers, these contain all the correct drivers for their hardware as well as being guaranteed supported versions. You can download them from the support site for your server model.

The Vanity URL for the HPE list of currently available Custom Images is: https://www.hpe.com/info/esxidownload

If you ever need an older build, like HPE is on 7.0 U3o on CustomerConnect but you need 7.0 U3g for some reason, open an HPE Support case and they can pull the older build from an internal archive and make it available to you.

All the recipes of what is in each Custom Image are found on the HPE VMware Mini Site: https://vibsdepot.hpe.com
