Esxi 5.0 U2 - Port group PNics Rebalance Command?

Hi,

i have 20 VMs on a single Port Group. On this Port Group are connected 6 Phisical Nics.

The VMs are up from a long time, and as far I can see the "Balancing" between

Virtual Nics and Phisical Nics is not optimal.

I have many VMs on 2 NICs, few on 2 Nics and none on 2 Nics.

I know that if i Reboot all the VMs, the "Route based on the Originating Port ID"

algorithm would automatically rebalance all the VM Nics on all the PNics.

There is a way (a command or a script), that can do the complete rebalancing

"Online" without rebooting the VMs?

Thanks

Unfortunately I'm not aware of such a command.

How did you configure the vSwitch/port group policies? Is Failback enabled?

With distributed virtual Switches there's a "Load Based Teaming" policy available (in case you have the appropriate licenses)

see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1022590

Hi Andrè,

thanks for the reply. Actually the version is Esxi Free but when there will be a VCenter installed

with properly licensed Host i'll take a look at the "Load Based Policy" which can be what I'm looking for.

It's quite a pity that there isn't a similar command for the Esxi.

Yes, the failback Option is active, but i think it will work when the PNic goes down.

Can a Feature Request be made in order to add it in one of the next VSphere Update?

Thanks

That's correct. However, a temporary link loss without failback could result in the situation you have. That's why I asked.

You can try it at Product & Feature Suggestions
