Hi All,
I was wondering if someone could help me with the best setup for my ESXi 6 networking config.
I have 5 NIC Ports I want to use to optimize the performance of my server. Split iSCSI traffic away from the Virtual Machine traffic.
Right now it only appears as though one of my ports is being used "vmnic1" (See Performance usage details below)
His my network setup.
vSwitch0 and vSwitch1 are split physically and are patched though 2 different switches. VM's through a main switch (vSwitch0) and iSCSI through a dedicated switch (vSwitch1).
I am using a QNAP as my storage.
Should I split the iSCSI onto it's own subnet? I'm not an networking expert by any means and would appritiate any advice on how I should set this up to achieve the best performance...
Hope someone can help!
Thanks!
Do you have configured Port Bind properly ? See: Best practice for configuring QNAP TS-x79 series Turbo NAS with VMware ESXi 5.0 :: iSCSI 、Virtualiza...
Hi Porto,
Thank you for the tip...
I have a question about the QNAP Best Practice guide. They use some huge IP ranges for there subnet masks /23 and /16
I only have 10 users.
Currently all my users are on the 192.168.4.0/24 subnet should I have my iSCSI and VMHost setup on a different subnet and do I need to create a route between the two subnets to be able to access the VMHost?
I was thinking about maybe doing this:
Users/PC's: 192.168.4.0 /24
VMHost: 192.168.5.0 /24
QNAP and iSCSI vSwitchs 192.168.5.0 /24
Is this correct?
I have 5 NIC ports available to configure now I have added a new 4 port NIC. What would be the best way to allocate the posts?
2 iSCSI
2 VM's
1 Host Mgmt
Look forward to hearing from you!
Hi,
I would suggest setting up the management Network vmnic with failover, and breaking up the iSCSI VMkernel to vmnics.
So have say:
VM Network, Vmnic 3 and 2, both active.
Management Network Vmnic 1 active, 2 and 3 standby
iSCSI 1 Vmnic 5 Active, 4 Unused
iSCSI 2 Vmnic 4 Active, 5 unused
I have no experience with Qnap Iscsi but you ll likely also want to turn Jumbo frames on for the Iscsi Uplinks.
For the question around why you are only seeing traffic on Vmnic1, could you share the Load Balancing setting under the VM network properties.
Thanks
