We have a host on which we forgot to disable iSCSI on its Emulex NICs. So the FC HBAs installed with device names vmhba3 and vmhba4 because the iSCSI initiators took device names vmhba1 and vmhba2. We disabled iSCSI and rebooted, but the device names of the HBAs are still 3 and 4. I would like to change them vmhba1 and vmhba2 to match the rest of the environment. Is there a way to manually change the HBA device name?
I have not tried it but somebody must of and sure enough, good ole google came up with www.virten.net. It says it can be done with changes to the /etc/vmware/esx.conf file. Let me know if it helped.

Yes, this works. In my case I changed the HBA device name instead of the NIC device name, but editing /etc/vmware/esx.conf is the solution to the problem.
