Installing a Second Hard Drive into the Host

Hi Community,

I have a vShpere 5.0 home lab and I'd like to add a second hard drive to my server. Is it as simple as installing the hard drive and the host will recognise the disk or is there some pre/post configuration required before installing the HDD?

Thanks in advance for your help and guidance.

Welcome to the VMware Communities forums.  Generally the process is as easy as adding the drive and then going to Configuration > Storage  and clicking Add Storage.

Just add the hard drive and after the host boots up, go to configuration - storage and add storage.

In some cases you might run into an issue where the host might not be able to add the storage directly. In that case, follow the below KB
