MSCS clustering on vSphere limitations? Couple questions.

The "Setup for Failover Clustering and Microsoft Cluster Service" guide states...

The following functions are not supported: Clustering on iSCSI, FCoE, and NFS disks.

It also states that Pass-through RDMs are supported across machines, which makes sense. I'm running into some confusion on a site though and would like to get some clarity on a couple things:

1. iSCSI is not supported for MSCS, correct?

2. If iSCSI is not supported, an iSCSI RDM would also not be supported and when the guide says "...RDMs are supported.." it's refering to Fiber Channel, correct?

Thanks!

Not sure why VMware says iSCSI is not supported with MSCS because it works just fine. Just be sure to enable SCSI bus sharing for the VM when you create the quoroum disk.

Working and 'supported' are not the same thing Smiley Happy

Yes, all of the RDM references are FC only.

VMware support only a 2 node configuration with FC (for cluster across box and virtual-physical).

For iSCSI the solution could be use a software initiator inside the VM...

For VMware you have only 2 VM with a iSCSI connection (supported)... For Microsoft point of view you have a 2 node cluster based on iSCSI (supported).
