RAM disk datastore?

Does ESXi support RAM disks, and is it possible to have a datastore on a RAM disk?

No, this is not possible. ESXi partitions are used for a specific system reason and it would be best, not to tamper with this.

I would say "it depends", some vendors like Atlantis Computing is acting as a RAM disk but presents it as a datastore to the VM:s.

Correct on Atlantis Computing.  Using Atlantis USX, it processes all IO traffic in memory prior to getting serialized down to disk thereby you can give flash performance to any type of storage.
