Server Console Freezing

About a month ago our Windows 2008 R2 servers had an issue where the console connections would freeze and we would be unable to access the server using the VMware console or RDP. We updated all of our machines to the WDDM video driver using the following document -

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=101170....

They have not locked up since. We now are having this issue with Windows 2003 Server machines. Our hosts were upgraded from 4.0 U1 to 4.0 U2 on 9/6/2010.

Anyone else experienced this issue or have any suggestions? This is our main web server and we can't just be rebooting it when this happens.

Thanks!

Are you accessing the VM with DNS or IP? As a webserver, it must reside in a DMZ or be accessable from the WWW with port forwarding. When the console is unavailable, try to ping it by IP.

Usually access them using DNS. It is in a DMZ. Even when the console connection is frozen the website is still up and the server responds to ping just fine.

I would look into issues besides the vSphere Client virtual machine console. Try logging into the client directly with the IP of the ESX host.
