There is error event "Power Distribution 0 Pwr Unit Status 0:Power off/down" in hardware status under vCenter server for ESX4.0 U2.

There is error event "Power Distribution 0 Pwr Unit Status 0:Power off/down" in hardware status under vCenter server for ESX4.0 U2.

We only saw this event in Hardware status under vCenter Server.

The server BMC log didn't see the similar event.

Does anybody can help to clarify what's the event meaning?

Which kind of server do you have?

BIOS is up to date?

Our server is QSSC-S4R model.

The BIOS version the latest one.

It's urgent which happened on our customer's site.

We would like to know what's the event meaning?

Would you please help clarify this event ASAP?

I do not know this kind of model.

But seems a problem on the power-supply or power distribution.

Or simple a wrong sensor.

If you have hardware diagnostic tools, run them to check system healt.

Or contact the hardware vendor.

The system is working normally and didn't see any server BMC log related to the PSU or PDB.

I just worried about why VMware recorded this event in HW status log.

So we would like to know which condition the error "Power Distribution" will record in VMware?

By the way, the VMware ESX4.0 U2 is trial version which our customer used.

I don't know whether it will cause the abnormal result like the error event?

Did  you verified the sensor event viewer of the Hardware, did you see any  error related to Power unit, You can use the Remote SEL viewer option or  management software if available

Also did you connected power supply for all the unit of the SMPS modules/powersupply modules in the server.

Thanks

Please see the attached file for the event viewer of Hardware which we got from our customer.

The time is 2010-12-23: 18:19:37 which our customer saw the HW status.

But we didn't find any error log in event viewer of hardware at the same time.(refer to the attached file.)

We just want to know the "Power Distribution 0 Pwr Unit Status 0:Power off/down" meaning.

Does it mean our customer has been done the  "power off/dwon" on the system by menual or something happened?

Did  you check the particular power supply unit 0, i think server has 4  Power units and in that first one is not having power supply or it is  not functioning as expected. As it is reported in SEL log as well, it  should be a problem in vCenter or ESX.

Thanks

I don't know whether it was the PSU no function or not due to it happened in our customer's site.

We have tried to reproduce this issue in our site by trying to remove the power supply unit 0.

The sensors of Power supply AC lost would be "Alert".  (Please see remove_PS1_pwc.JPG)

But the sensor of "Power Distribution 0 Pwr Unit Status 0:Power off/down" is always normal.

We didn't see the "Power Distribution 0 Pwr Unit Status 0:Power off/down" which showed "Alert" in HW status.

What's the condiction which the sensor of "Power Distribution 0 Pwr Unit Status 0:Power off/down" will show "Alert"?
