Update HP ESXi 5.0 to Update 1

Hi there

I'm not totally new to ESXi, i installed 3.5 and 4 but never updated one.

Our servers are installed with HP custom Image/iso "5.0_Oct_2011_ESXi_HD_USB_SDImgeInstlr_Z7550_00253".

Now i'd like to update the servers to 5.0 Update 1 without reinstalling them.

I found the the U1 iso, but i think thats not for updating... shouldn't it be a zip file or have i misunderstood something?

Can somebody help to find the correct way for update the servers to U1 including CIM/NMI Providers/Drivers?

Thanks for help!

Simon

You can upgrade using the HP ISO, present it to your server, when prompted perform an upgrade rather than an install.

The HP iso includes the CIM providers and drivers.

Although I always perform a fresh install rather than an upgrade, if you have enterprise plus you can use a host profile to to save the current configuration and reapply after the fresh install.

You can download HP ESXi Offline Bundle for VMware ESXi 5.0 and use ESXCLI or VUM to perform the Update1.

Is it also possible to perform the upgrade using the HP ISO with vSphere Update Manager?

Yes, you can import the latest HP ISO into Update Manager. It will automatically create a baseline of it that you can use to update your hosts.

Installing the latest HP Offline bundle will only update the Offline bundle, but not ESXi itself!

I used VUM to bring all servers to Update 1

HP does have downloadable bundles to use with VUM for their drivers and management tools.
