number of paths for esxi host to LUN

HI

I am deploying new Dell Power store storage and just wondering what number of paths I should configure for hosts

Of course 2 is minimum I can do 4 paths and also 8 paths (dell recommends not more than 😎

According to dell this diagram should satisfy

Question

Will number of paths increase performance. Since this is iSCSI connection i would use Round robin to each LUN

I would have minimum 4 paths for redundance purposes and performance.

Best regards,

we did this in the past with Netapp, so keep an eye on their documentation: https://www.netapp.com/pdf.html?item=/media/17017-tr4789pdf.pdf

More then 4 might not increase throughput, because the limiting IOPS might come from the disks, not from the cabeling/path. Also think about placing only a few VMs on a datastore(path) and do loadbalancing with more datastores and more Sessions to them. So each datastore will have its on session.

- consider to use JUMBO frames if supported

- review switch backplane architecture to distribute ports efficiently in the backend
