If I have one vCenter server enterpise edition at my primary site, and 1 vCenter server standard server at my DR site, is it possible to manage both these locations under one vSphere client?
is this where linked mode comes in?
yup, we have to link the VCs for viewing the inventory of both servers through a single vSphere Client. It happens with the help of sychronised ADAM database at underlying windows host.
this blog will give brief idea on how linked mode works, http://vmguy.com/wordpress/index.php/archives/803

Thanks, this helped!
You can also simply launch the client twice, logging into each vCenter Server in turn. It won't be a 'single pane of glass' but it will work if you have issues getting the vCenters into a linked configuration. I'm acutally using that method since the linked vCenter's broke apart when I upgraded to vCenter 5 (from 4.1 U1)... I do hope to get them linked again at some point, but it's not a high priority. Right now, I have three different vCenters displayed this way.
