HA cluster with 2 nodes with VC behind WAN connection

Hello all,

I am thinking about turning on the HA cluster feature in VI3. We have two ESX3.0.2 nodes in our LAN. But we have Virtual Center server installed behind the WAN connection (because of political reasons Smiley Happy).

What will happen if:

First scenario:

the first node loses LAN connection to the second node ? Will both nodes claim itself as isolated and all virtual machines will be switched off ?

Second scenario:

the Virtual Center server will be unavailable (e.g. because the WAN connection will be broken); but these two nodes will see each other

Thanks,

Vladimir

I set the das.isolationaddress in the cluster as Cluster->Edit Settings->VMware HA->Advanced Options. I set the ip address of one of our domain controllers that is resolvable on all of the hosts in the cluster.

You can set several IP's das.isolationaddress2 =

das.failuredetectiontime = <value> (default 15 seconds); you set the default time for failure

First scenario:

you can add das.isolationaddress to make it ping default gatway to see if it's isolated or not if the default G/W is not accessible it would put itself isolated and let the other esx host take over

second senario

No problem, both nodes still see each other and talk HA. DRS does not work if no VC

Where can I find the "das.isolationaddress" ? I've looked into Advanced options, but with have no luck.

Btw. is there a possibility to define more than one isolation address ?
