Can I deliver remote desktops to Windows 2003 / 2008 server operating systems via the View manager? We are developing on these platforms and would like to be able to grant access to them via the view client...
VIa View Manager? View Manager is the interface you would use to manage your pools of View Desktops.
You can use the View Client to access a view desktop from a 2003 server (I just tested it using View 3.1.2).
You can't use IE to access your View Broker from a Server OS as that version of the browser does not support the OS. I tried that hitting a View 3.1.2 Broker and a View 4 Broker.
So the answer is yes, IF you install the appropriate View Client to connect (based on the test I just made).
good luck
Sorry, I didn't phrase my question well...
What I would like to do is make Windows servers available via the View Client (which I would install on XP desktops). As you know in order to do this I need to add them and entitle them in the View Manager. It appeared that I could install the View Agent into Windows Server 2003, but while I can add Windows Desktops (both physical and virtual) via the View Manager, I cannot add Windows Servers. They are simply nowhere to be found when doing queries.
I'm guessing this isn't supported, but perhaps I'm not looking in the right place. To some it may sound like a bad idea anyway, but this is a dev environment and these servers are simply for dev / test, not production. I do want our developers to be able to RDP into them.
Thanks.
D.
Ok, sorry I misunderstood.
I think for now you can only serve up Windows XP or Vista desktops with Windows 7 coming due in the next update of View 4
Actually, VMware View introduced a functionality known as Unified Access since View 3.0.1 release
Unified Access – View Manager brokers connections to physical PCs,
terminal servers, and blade PCs in addition to virtual desktops hosted
on VMware Infrastructure 3 and vSphere.
