SRM Licensing under VSphere

Hi List,

i'm going to upgrade my VI 3.5 to VSphere 4.1.

At the Moment i'm running in my primary site VI3.5 U4 Enteprise licensed with 8 CPUs and on the secondary Site VI3.5 U4 Standard Foundation licensed for six CPU and SRM licensed for 8 CPUs.

Next month i'm going to upgrade on the primary site to VSPhere Ent. plus and on the secondary site to VSPhere Standard Foundation (i have a SnS and the old Foundation  lics are automatically convertet to one Instance "VCenter Server Foundation" and "VSphere 4 Standard")

Can i use this license environment for SRM 4.1.1, or is an license upgrade on the secondary site necessary??

Thanks Andreas

Hi,

The compatibility guide document lacks information about vCenter editions supported with SRM.

That's why I wrote that both Standard and Foiundation are supported. This info can be found in the document available in the following thread:

http://communities.vmware.com/thread/273932?tstart=200

Hi,

Information you are looking for is found in http://www.vmware.com/pdf/srm_compat_matrix_4_1.pdf :

SRM 4.0 and later are compatible with:

VMware vSphere Standard, Advanced, Enterprise, and Enterprise Plus editions

VMware Infrastructure Enterprise, Foundation, and Standard editions

Regarding vCenter editions, SRM is supported with vCenter Server Standard and vCenter Server Foundation.

Hi,

i know this document.

i'm little bit confused about the "wording"

Only for clarifying: the VCenter Server Foundation (in my case originally purchased as an "VMware Infrastructure Foundation Acceleration Kit for 6 Processors")   is limited for managing up to three Hosts and it's not possibile to configure the "Linked Mode"

But this is supportet by SRM, isn' it?

Kind regards

Andreas

You are absolutely right.

i have asked the vmware last week too and 've got these answer today in the morning.

"

Site Recovery Manager is supported with vCenter Server Standard and
vCenter Server Foundation. Note that vCenter Foundation is functionally
equivalent to vCenter Standard, but you are limited to managing three
hosts with vCenter Foundation."

Thx Michael & best regards
