DELL Hardware

Hello,

We are trying to install ESXi 3.5 in a DELL hardware, and our servers are not in the "official" system guide document (vi35_systems_guide.pdf) supplied by vmware.

Everyone knows if any server model of the next list are supported and works fine with ESXi 3.5 ?

--> Dell PowerEdge 750

--> Dell PowerEdge 2600

--> Dell PowerEdge SC 1435

--> Dell PowerEdge 850

thanks in advance.

If you want no uncertancies then stick to the HCL. to see of these may work you need to check the Controller, and the NIC cards against the relevant HCL. that is as near to knowing without actually installing the machines

If they're not on the HCL, they're not officially supported by VMware. I imagine that most of them will work if they have SCSI disks however.

I'm trying to eliminate possible uncertainties in the initial tests, then I would be very grateful if anyone knows if one of this servers works fine.

thanks !

Hello,

You will need to do some research by looking at the HCLs for both the official VMware and Community guides. These servers may work if the IO cards are fully supported. But I would not use them in production as there would be no support.

Agree with Tom. If it is not in HCL, it is not really tested by VMware or Dell. You will not get support and it will be difficult to resolve any issues. It is recommended to stick with the HCL.

If you still want to try any other server, make sure the server's hardware components (like NICs, storage controller, processor) is available in HCL. This will ensure that ESX has the correct drivers.
