Hi,
I've just migrated the first virtual machine from an ESX 2.5.3 to our new ESX 3.0.1.
Now, before I power it on I have to update the virtual hardware and the VMware Tools.
In VC I have the option to right-click the virtual machine and select Upgrade Virtual Hardware. Does this also cover the VMware Tools, or do I HAVE to run the command line version (can't remember the name)?
Thanks in advance,
Rasmus
This will only upgrade the virtual hardware, you'll need to install the tools seperatly.

Upgrade Virtual Hardware, then power on the VM.
Log on as THE local administrator (to avoind vmtools upgrade problems).
Then run VMware Tools install.
Reboot and everything is good to go.
If you want to use the command line tool. It is installed in the same directory as Virtual Center Server is installed. It is called vmware-vmupgrade. To use this tool, you should have the VM powered off. It will upgrade the virtual hardware (if necessary), then it will power on the VM, install the tools and power of the VM.
