vcbmounter - backup to remote host

Hello, there is a note in backup documentation that backups with vcbmounter could be done to the directory on remote computer, through scp.(page 62 in VM Backup Guide)

Are here some prerequisities for this remote computer? I mean:

- OS platform

- some VMware tools installed

Michal -

Welcome to the forums!

What you describe is running vcbMounter directly in the ESX service console. You could copy the VM files to another machine via scp. SCP is native on most linux and unix versions. There is probably a windows version as well. SCP is "Secure CP" or "Secure Copy" - "cp" is the *nix copy command. Just remember that running it this way involves extra stress on the service console and its network. You would be better off doing it in a VM using the hot-add mode that was introduced in VCB 1.5 or better on a stand alone proxy.

The hot-add or stand-alone proxy requires Windows 2003 SP1 or later.

Hello Dave,

thanks for answer - so it could be any server with scp , and no special VWware utilities are required here?

(I know about VCB proxy backup, that's still variant for us, too)

Yes - If I remember correctly, the mount point will be scp://fqdn/directory
