DataStore creation help needed!

I've installed ESX 3.5 with default disk layout. I'm using 400GB seagate IDE drive as Master. I've 120 GB SATA drive as slave. ESX installation went well and now the question when i try to create a datastore from VI client.. it doesn't show anthing when i click Add storage nothing happens.

#df -k

FileSystems 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted On

/dev/hda3 5036316 1345988 3434496 29% /

/dev/hda1 101089 26223 69647 28% /boot

none 134284 0 134284 0% /dev/shm

/dev/hda5 2008108 34180 1871920 2% /var/log

What do i need to do to make sure i can use the remaining storage pool on my disk and create proper datastore.

Hello,

Your SATA/SCSI controller must first be on the HCL in order for this to work. Very few SATA controllers are supported. http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi35_io_guide.pdf if you controller is not on this list then I suggest getting one that is or is compatible with one of the ones that is. Note some SATA controllers can not be in RAID mode to work as well.
