ESX Installation

Can you please assist me in installing ESX? Is ESX installation similar to ESXi in terms of that ESX is not dependent that a particular machine should have an OS installed already? Please enlighten me on this.

Yes, the vmkernel is your "OS" you don't need to insatll an OS before.

Koolme just to add...ESX itself is an OS...it is basically includes Vmkernel which does the actual virtualization. Also ESXI installable version can be installed if reqd...the procedure if very much same, just that the interface is a bot different.

cool! maybe the person asking me about it must be referring to VMWare Server 2. I wanted to install it on a test machine but the problem is that I always encounter the error below.

“The installer was unable to find any supported network devices”

any advice?

Always make sure that your hardware is compatible. The network card of your hardware is not recognized by ESX Server. You should try finding compatible Ethernet adapters.
