Help with vcb insanity...

Hi We just installed ESX and running some tests and having problem with VCB. Did some searches on the net but still coming up short. Hope you guys can give m a hand.

Current setup..ESX 3.5.0, Virtual Center 2.5 -physical server, VCB 3.5 installed on VC, iSCSI san.

Running a full vm backup is fine, no probem at all. The problem is with the -t file option. It doesn't seem to mount the vol and it just sits there. Here is the log (-L 6)

vcbmounter -h vircenter -u user -p password -a ipaddr:vm.domain.com -r d:\mnt -t file -m san -L 6

Hello FT5508,

maybe this helps.. i tested vcb on a windows 2003 R2 server. This was not properly working. After i upgraded to ESX 3.5 Update 1 and VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 1 my problems disappeared.

I know it may sound very stupid, but make sure you have all the LUNs presented to the VCB server as well.

I've seen this at a customers environment, it actually made the snapshot and created unmount.dat AND copied log-files and such, without the VCB server having the LUNs presented. As soon as we presented the LUNs to the server, everything worked as a charm.

Cheers!

Hi there,

I know it may sound very stupid, but make sure the LUNs are presented to the VCB server. I have seen a similar situation at one customers site where the logfiles and unmount.dat and smaller files were created (also the snapshot was made and removed directly), for that customer it was easy enough to solve.. Just presented the LUNs to the VCB server and it was working like a charm.

Cheers!

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll give vcb another shot once I fix HA/DRS/VMotion.

What is the guest VM that you are trying to backup? VCB will only allow file level on windows guests, so I hope that is what you are trying to do.

Restart the mount service and verify your permissions are correct. Then make sure disk manager can see the disks, and then try to backup file level.
