Removing snapshots

Hi everyone

When I remove snapshots from the vm on ESX server it "times out" but it removes the snapshot from the snapshot manager.

If I putty into the ESX server and look at the server folder I see allot of .vmdk files in the folder.

CESEXCH01-000001-delta.vmdk CESEXCH01_1-000005-delta.vmdk CESEXCH01.vmsd

CESEXCH01-000001.vmdk CESEXCH01_1-000005.vmdk CESEXCH01.vmx

CESEXCH01-000002-delta.vmdk CESEXCH01_1-flat.vmdk CESEXCH01.vmxf

CESEXCH01-000002.vmdk CESEXCH01_1.vmdk vmware-3.log

CESEXCH01-000005-delta.vmdk CESEXCH01-863ddfc2.vswp vmware-4.log

CESEXCH01-000005.vmdk CESEXCH01-flat.vmdk vmware-5.log

CESEXCH01_1-000001-delta.vmdk CESEXCH01.nvram vmware-6.log

CESEXCH01_1-000001.vmdk CESEXCH01-Snapshot229.vmsn vmware-7.log

CESEXCH01_1-000002-delta.vmdk CESEXCH01-Snapshot2.vmsn vmware-8.log

CESEXCH01_1-000002.vmdk CESEXCH01.vmdk vmware.log

There is no snapshot on the vm and its only got 2 hard disks attached.

Did it remove the snapshots from the folder or not?

Using third party backup software, when I restore from the bakup source it fails.

Please help!

Hi, I already had same issue.

To solve this case, create a new snapshot with Snapshot manager. Then delete them all, you will see, all vmdk files will be deleted.

If you want, I have a script checking a vm with snapshot or not.

Best regards

Not properly, by the looks of it. The files with delta in the name are snapshot files but don't remove them even if the Snapshot manager says there are no snapshots, at least not until you have ascertained for sure that they are not being used. The date/time stamp on the files should tell you, i.e. if the normal vmdk files are being updated and the delta ones not then you are probably ok to delete the delta ones.
