Upgrading VMware Tools loses Ubuntu Networking

I upgraded to Leopard and Vmware Fusion 1.1. Unfortunately, I can't remember in which order! Having upgrading, I got the invitation to upgrade vmtware ools. No problems with the Windows XP client, but alas when I re-install the tools into the Unbuntu 7.04 or 7.1 clients I get "no network connection" (I am sharing the VMware host NAT using NAT).

Any ideas?

I use bridged networking, GUI in Ubunty 7.10 shows no network, ifconfig in Terminal shows it works ok. Can surf and all.

Have you actually tried using your network? There's some evidence of a problem

between nm-applet (the upper tray network icon) and Network Manager in

Ubuntu. In my own case (Ubuntu 7.10 i386 in Fusion 1.1 on Mac OS 10.4.11),

nm-applet indicates there's no network, but everything (browsing, etc) works fine.

If you look for nm-applet in the Ubuntu forums, you'll find all sorts of people with

the same problem.

Some have said that turning off roaming in your wired connection (which is what

VMware provides) in System/Administration/Network and making sure it's set for

DHCP will sometimes fix problems.

Thanks for the replies. It appears that networking is actually OK, it is just the icon in the menu-bar that is lying telling me I am not connected, when in fact I am.
