Windows 8 can't update to 8.1

Running Fusion 7, today I installed Windows 8 from install disk. All went well until I went to Microsoft store to get 8.1. Store keeps telling me I need to install ALL updates first. I go to updates, it tells me I need to restart to install updates, I do restart but updates never install. Is this something you guys can help me with please.

This is the issue with the windows update. everything else is quite fine. must see which updates are not being updated and try to fix them by windows forum. you will surely get it fix afterwards.

Hello Dan,

Had the same thing with a physical laptop over the weekend down here that a family member dropped off as they bumped into this issue on a Windows 8.0 laptop that came back from repairs and thus had to be re-installed from scratch.

Not a virtual machine but still this problem.

On reboot the updates did always roll back.. very frustrating and time consuming.

In the end I did a system restore to a state before I ran ANY update, then gave the machine enough time to find that it had to run 151 updates. After that I tried to install Win 8.1 as it suggested it would do that now, but it clashed with the additional 18 updates ... (and it returned back to the state before)

But on reboot - well several reboots, but it did all by itself - it now did install Windows 8.1 (and I never installed the 18 updates)

Note that the above took > 20 hours as it included many rollbacks en test/try again sequences.

I'm just now back to installing the updates past 8.1 clean and am hoping for the laptop to be done quick.

Windows 8.x is such a joy  .. :s

Thanks everyone, my fix was a bit brutal but worked. I uninstalled Fusion 7.1.1, reinstalled. Then I was able to install 8 and then 8.1 Smiley Happy
