I created a VM with Converter, then was running it with Workstation 6.5. I then uninstalled Workstation and tried Player 3.0.
The problem I am having is that the Win XP VM does not see the USB devices. I end up with a device in Device Manager in my VM called "VMware Virtual USB Hub" and no driver is loaded for it.
I have the VMware Tools installed on the guest OS.
The device ID for this is
USB\VID_0E0F&PID_0002\5&CD6272B&0&2
How do I load a driver for this device? I can't find the right one.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!
This issue doesn't occur with other VMs that I had. So there is something wrong with the guest OS installation.
Any ideas?
read USB related stuff here

maybe this applies to you ... did this used to work with other VMs in WS7 or WS 6.5 ?

I had another Win XP VM which just worked fine with Player 3.
I checked the USB controller drivers - all Microsoft, and no UpperFilter in the register on the USB class.
I used to have VMWare Workstation installed on the guest OS (it used to be my host OS!)
Maybe something did not uninstall correctly.
run the install-cleaner from kb 1308 then

I found the solution to this issue.
The Win XP was missing usb.inf which should be in C:\WINDOWS\INF. I copied it and usb.pnf from a working Win XP VM and it was able to load the right drivers for the vmware usb hub.
