I have installed windows XP inside Vmware Workstation 8 (Windows 7 is Host). I want to practice some programming in (XP which is VM )it which will access Hardware and BIOS. Will it affect my hardware ? Or is hardware also virtualized ?
yes you can change the bios settings of virtual machine without causing any damage to the real hardware.
The changes to the bios of the vm does not have effects on the host because it is isolated.
Does it mean I can play around without causing any damage to the real hardware ?

Hi akashj,
please find your answer regarding your doubts
you can play with any software with existing hardware but make sure hardware are compatibility with the software you are going to play .
Be aware of display units if you are playing with linux where you have to manage display frequency if its not proper may harm your display unit only not graphics card.
