Internet Connection on Windows 98 and VMware 5.5.4

Hi all.

Months ago I installed Windows 98 and it worked perfectly, with audio and adsl properly working.

I've recently bought a new router (D-Link DSL-G624T) and internet doesn't work any more. I've 3 devices on my lan (desktop 192.168.1.2, Laptop1 192.168.1.3 and Laptop2 192.168.1.6).

In the "Network Adapter" window I've selected "Bridged: Connected directly to the physical network" and in Windows 98 I can get in my router' wireless setup, but I can't surf, because everytime I get the page I've attached in this post; I've tried to check NAT or Host Only but it's the same...

What can I do?

Thank you in advance

Nicolò

Did you reboot your host?

Yes, and now works fine, thank you!

What about Windows 98? Every ping test seems to be done correctly.

Windows XP uses the leasing system, by DHCP, an intelligent and automatic solution, while Win 98 seems more complicated...I can still join in 192.168.1.1 but I cannot surf Smiley Sad

Try to ping this address from Win98 guest:

ping 68.180.206.184

If it doesn't work try to determine where it breaks:

tracert 68.180.206.184

Please post results.

Good. You have an Internet connectivity. Lets fix DNS.

Please post results from:

ping 4.2.2.2

nslookup

server 4.2.2.2

yahoo.com

So it is all in your Internet Explorer settings. Check (post) them all.

Which version do you use?

I'm using IE 6.0.2800.1106.

I think you are surely right, because I've just downloaded Mozilla Firefox on my physical machine then moved it in Win 98 and...Internet works perfectly!

Damn IE! ___

So we have to find the solution in IE' settings...but it is all in italian language Smiley Sad

EDIT:

Now IE works perfectly!

I sifted through IE' settings and fortunately found the solution for this issue: I tried to disable the "Use HTTP 1.1" checkbox and magically...Google is appeared!!!

Thank you a lot for your patience, for your very useful assistance and tips and for your readiness!

Sorry for my bad english and inexperience for these things.

Thank you again,

Nicolò
