'Upgrading" to VMW12Pro from VMW8 - Install on top or clean uninstall of 8

Hey all,

As the title states I'm upgrading to VMW12Pro from VMW8.

I'd like to know if i can install the 12 'on top' of the 8 or do I need (or just best practice) to uninstall 8 before installing 12.

I'm already in the process of making copies of my VMs just to be safe.

This is all in prep to upgrade both Host and Guest to Windows 10.

Thanks for any input you may provide

Hi,

You can just install "on top". When you run the installer for Workstation 12, it will see that you have Workstation 8 installed and uninstall that on your behalf.

After that it will continue to install VMware Workstation 12.

Note that while it will uninstall Workstation 8, all your virtual machines will be preserved.
