i tried mint 18.3 or VMware-Player-14.0.0 on mint 19.

i cant ignore the problem. (old version, 14.0.0 cant be installed successfully or can not start vmware application)

any body can help this issue?

PS:

and,

"/usr/lib/vmware/config": No such file or directory.   ====> actually, my mint 19 platform has the file.

$ ll /usr/lib/vmware/config

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 615  8 31 15:39 /usr/lib/vmware/config            ===> it exists.

No, it is not a configuration in Player. It is a configuration in your Mint host. I know Ubuntu has such a setting (Settings > Privacy > Usage & History), not sure if Mint has a similar one? If it is enabled, your host system will save recently-used-files.

vmware-err-1.png

figure 1. you can see i click the [open virtual machine] button, and direct to its folder, and the left window is its folder.

vmware-err-2.png

figure 2, after i click the [open] button in the dialog, vmware app window does NOT show that item.

and the left window add a new folder named "xxxxxxxxxxx.vmx.lck". (something about lock.)

and then, there is no other thing happened.

======================================================================

and , if i close the vmware app window, the folder "xxxxxxxxxxx.vmx.lck" will be deleted automatically.

=======================================================================

thx for ur response.

if any clue is helpful, i would post it here.

PS: if i create a whole new image (not open the existed one), the result is the same.

PS: is this related to display card?

i dont have display card installed. the motherboard has display chip with hdmi output.

Can you check if Settings-> Privacy-> Usage & History is enabled? Please enable it and try again.

Vmware Player uses host system 's recently-used-files mechanism (Usage & History) to preserve the inventory list in "~/.local/share/recently-used.xbel". If you disable that, Player cannot reserve recently opened VMs.

but, if so, that mean system setting (Usage & History) can not be turn off.

that impact is system-wide.

does this make sense?
