virtual machine turns to blank screen during linux installation

Hi,

I am new to vmware. I am planning to create two linux virtual machines with Centos 5, on a laptop with host vista.

After creating a blank virtual machine, and poweredon to install linux using the iso image files.

While the installation in the process, if I click Ctrl+Alt, the linux installation GUI dissappears, and gets a blank screen.

From then on, I get only a blank screen even by repeating to power on.

I removed the blank virtual machine, and re-created a blank virtual machine. Now I get back the installation GUI again, when I power on to install the vm.

But If I try to go to the host to browse vista by typing Ctrl+Alt, the screen becomes blank again.

Can someone tell me what is going on, and how to prevent this from happening ?

Thank you very much for your time.

Did you try going full screen during setup, and hitting the spacebar? That might bring the console back. However, I don't remember the install taking all that long in CentOS, so maybe you should just sit in it until it's finished. CentOS has worked fine for me with Vista/workstation 6.5.x and Win7/workstation 7 combinations.
